History of the Truffle

past up to Jacob’s time (

) when for the first time, the Truffle has been
mentioned in a book. But these historical sources have not been approved by
everyone.
- In our Region of France,
truffles fields
have always been a
priority
until the end of
last century. Indeed,
in 1882
, 20 Tons of fresh truffles were sold in
Richelieu

Market.
- This tradition will last until
1920
, when the production started to
drop
.
The
First World War
was responsible for the death of so many people in rural areas
that the survivors were forced to neglect truffles to undertake more urgent work.
- In 1940 the national production had already fallen from 2000 to 400 tons.

boom caused an exodus from the country side and the

fileds.
- The lowest production was reached in the 1960's.
